Right, I have in my little grubby hand a Papermaster98 CD dated 1998 JetFaX Inc. However it will not load on Windows 10. As I have said in my May 2025 Post I copied to a USB drive to a Dell Win 10 portable and it works like a dream.
I had it on WIN7 home edition Acer it also works but I need to sort out the Microsoft registration. I found my Win7 professional which works (but not as good a my Dell W10) Have have yet use my use the scanner on any computers but it my be because they are 64bit and the Program is 32Bit via compatibility.
So currently I scan documents as tiff then saved on assorted cabinets. Then Imported from the cabinet files into various folders and can view them as before but unable to move from folder to folder. Its better than anything else as I'm transferring PDF , JPG , PNG and most other files as long as you have the program to read them. Just remembered a small problem, the shaky window 7 computers always look for 'My Cabinets' on drive C when I have the cabinets all on my network as I have a large number! Still working to work on any other Win 10 apart from my single dell portable. but I'm still working on it
I've been using this program since it was published, including patch 4.03 and even got it to go on win 10. Then they made an update on Win10 and I'm reduced to an old Win 7 Machine. It will work on Wn 10 but I've yet to import new files into cabinets. Have original disk but seems Windows 10 misses something. Have yet to find anything like it, it's so useful and to convert 1000 of TIF files would take longer than I have!
I have the Papermaster Pro CD - I have to find it - which I never installed.
Still using the original program, and it works well for my purposes.
I store a very large cabinet on 2 external HDs (2 copies of the same cabinet), but on my new desk computer I would like to install the original program, which I no longer have.
Could anyone help, please. I would be most grateful.
They have discontinued the program. I don't have it, but I am in need of Papermaster 3.0. Would you happen to have an older version of Papermaster? I have files I need to open.
Guest #24969890,
The original Papermaster 98 (ver 4) can be downloaded free. It still works well on Windows 10 64 bit (haven’t tried it on Win 11). Is peerless. Needs assistance to get it to install on a 64-bit system, but once installed it runs very smoothly.
@David Trill:
Probably just as well you didn’t succeed with XP, because you would’ve been very unhappy with the result. The 64-bit windows 10 solution is brilliant, far better than the original PM98 installations in the early 2000s. I set out all the steps for doing this in a forum discussion on DPreview.com in 2021. You can search on my name in the forums there, or else it’s post 6475 9726
David Rollo, Brilliant. Thanks for the prompt reply. I just managed to get 98 going in virtual xp .Importing the data will be a real pain. Ill try your method for Win 10.
Cheers
Dave

Very interested in you did that. Spent most of the day trying to get papermaster 98 to run on a virtual drive with xp on.
